Myopia Management
What is myopia?
Myopia (or short sightedness) is caused by the shape of the eye. In the case of myopia, the eye is too long. This means that myopic patients can see close things clearly and that far things are blurry. Children are more likely to be myopic if one or both their parents are myopic. Other factors are too much time spent on close work, such as screen time, reading or computers.
Myopia management
There are several ways to help control the onset of myopia:
- Less close work and more time outside will help.
- Optical methods
- The Stellest lens slows down myopia progression by an average of 67% when worn 12 hours a day. The lens is made up of a constellation of 1021 invisible lenslets. These bring sharp vision to the child whilst creating a signal in the child’s eye to stop the eye growing longer.
- MiSight contact lens is a soft, child friendly, daily disposable contact lens. These have been shown to slow myopia progression by an average of 59%. Using ActivControl technology. Contact lenses also provide children with the freedom for a more active lifestyle.
